Email Template is uneditable and all options in design studio are greyed out?

I have a couple of email templates in my instance, within design studio, that appear with all the options greyed out - I am unable to preview, edit or clone these templates.

Although I am still able to create an email using these particular templates, once I do so I am also unable to select the modules tab in the email editor.

I was wondering if anyone has come across this previously, or might know why this could occur?

I think this can be caused by two things:

1. You are looking at these templates from a workspace where they are only shared to. If you want to make edits, you have to make them in the workspace where the templates actually live. Do you see your templates in a folder with a lock on it?

2. You don’t have the necessary user rights to edit templates.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your response, however I can confirm this is not within a shared folder and I also have the necessary rights to edit templates within the instance.

I have tested this to ensure these two options are not what is causing it, in my testing I can see

  1. When email templates are in shared folder you can not edit but still can clone, preview and send sample.
  2. When user rights are set to limit access to email templates, it does not enable you click into the email templates at all.

With the issue I am having, I am able to edit the majority of the templates available however a few of them are appearing with all options greyed out, as shown above.

Hmm. “Personal Note (Marketo Starter Template)” is one of Marketo’s quick start templates, right? I wonder if you have somehow make that visible under “Templates” and can’t edit it, because it’s a system template.

What are the other templates that you can’t edit?
