Scenario:
  • Leads sync over to salesforce from marketo from landing page form
  • These leads are already contacts in salesforce
  • The leads sync over as new leads, leaving us with a lead record and contact record
  • emails match

Thanks for any ideas!

I'm joining this thread as I'm currently experiencing a similar scenario in which I have a lead in sfdc that was created back in 2012. A colleague of mine uploaded a lead into mkto with the same email address as sfdc. Now I have two lead records in sfdc with the same email.

Are you assigning the record to a Queue? That will definitely create a dupe.

@Josh - interesting, so if I upload a lead into MKTO without a specific lead owner, this lead will be created even if the email address is already existing in the database? SO, is the way around this to assign to a specfic lead owner?

Also, what are some best practices to consider before uploading to ensure duplicates will not be created?

@Josh (& anyone open to jumping in) ... we actually may have a lead queue after all. My oversight!
Can you comment any further on best practices to reconcile leads duping based
upon the fact we are pushing over to a queue in the marketo sync?

thanks for any ideas.
