Does Marketo sync SFDC contacts that are inactive?

We are cleaning up our SFDC instance before syncing with Marketo. As part of this, we will be updating old/erroneous contacts as invalid. I don't want those syncing with Marketo.

Can you tell me if Marketo syncs SFDC contacts that are inactive? If that is the default, is there a way to make sure inactive SFDC contacts are not synced?

Marketo syncs all contacts. If you want to block them, you could edit your SFDC Marketo profile to not "see" the inactive contacts, then they wouldn't sync.

If the SFDC record is updated, Marketo will resync this record.

What is "inactive" defined as? A better way is to do this in Marketo or to delete these records in Marketo AFTER you finish your update.

Marketo syncs all contacts. If you want to block them, you could edit your SFDC Marketo profile to not "see" the inactive contacts, then they wouldn't sync.
