does marketo automatically block unsubscribed leads from getting emails

Wanted to make sure that Marketo will automatically block all unsubsribers from getting an e-mail if the e-mail if NOT operational.  So I donlt need to do anything with the smart list,, right?

Yes. That's also why you see "blocked" leads when you go to schedule in the Smart Campaign.

Like Steffen said, unsubscribed leads won't get non-operational emails. 

That said, I still build a bounced/unsub/marketing suspended smart list to suppress from mailings so my numbers are cleaner. So then I set up the campaign smart list to check to ensure people are NOT in my "don't email" list. Folks who hard bounce or unsub stay in the list unless they take a direct action to make themselves active. For soft bounces, I have a seperate flow action that moves them to marketing suspended after >3 bounces in a week, and out of marketing suspended 7 days later.
