Do I have to set a regular Cadence?

After creating an engagement program and creating multiple Streams, do you have to set a regular cadence? I would like to send emails irregularly. For example, I want to send the first email on monday, the second one week later, the third two weeks later and so on. Is there a problem with changing the cadence after each email goes out? 

Note: I realize that you can accomplish this with the old smart campaign flow but prefer to use the new engagement program so I can easily add new content and have multiple streams in the same place.
