Difference between "email delivered" and "email sent"

I would like to know the difference between "email delilvered" and "email sent".

Hi Monica,

Email sent is counted for every email that Marketo sends to your leads on your behalf.

Email delivered is a response sent from the recipient's email server to confirm receipt of your email.

So for example if it turns out that you have an incorrect email address for one of your leads and that email doesn't actuall exist then the email will be sent but it won't be delivered.
