Delivery rate suddenly much higher

My company recently switched from Constant Contact to Marketo and I've noticed our deliverability rate is somehow much higher now.

With Constant Contact our bounce rate was steady around 20%
With Marketo bounces are around 5% (95% deliverability)

How is that possible?  I had assumed the 20% bounce rate was due to wrong email addresses because our database is not current enough.  Was it something else?  Is Marketo just that much better?

We are pretty awesome.

In all seriousness, there are a few factors:
  • We make segmentation easier, so you might be sending to more targeted lists
  • A lot of folks purge some leads which switching systems, so you may have done that too
  • We're focused on deliverability and do things like throttle email sending and work with ISPs for maximum delivery rates
  • We have very good email sending reputation, which also has an impact
20% to 5% is a big jump, but hopefully some of the above helps clarify.
