Deliverabilty issues to Foreign Language Speakers

We've recently launched translated emails of our core on-boarding flows. We're seeing open rates 10-15% lower than our normal english flows. I was curious if Marketo had any help documents or knowledge to share on this topic; we're wondering if it's deliverability issue or if we're not adhering to translated best practices.

Hi Micaela,

How are you translating your content? Is there a person that does it manually or are you using some type of software to do it?

Thanks,

We used the Smartling Marketo plug-in to translate them.

If you didn't choose a high-quality human translator, I'm not surprised. Bad translation is easy (relatively) for anti-spam AI to pick up.

Of course, merely poorly translating content doesn't mean it's spam, but it does mean that it remains foreign to the remote system. Given that spammers aim to spread spam to as many corners of the globe as possible, it makes sense to be sensitive to messages that appear to be jockeying for position merely by being in the recipient's language.
