Just go to the Schedule tab and click activate/deactivate button.

Hi Andrew, Michael is exactly right.
You can also verify a Campaign is active because the Light Bulb icon for that campaign will be yellow.

Also, when I go to the Schedule tab it's only showing a 'deactivate' button even though it shows under the 'Trigger Activation History' that the trigger was deactivated. Is this to be expected?

This could be a lag in the Activation History. From the screenshot you just attached, you can see the Campaign Status is Active.
I would recommend to go back to the main page of the campaign and refresh your browser. Hopefully, the most recent activation history will be an activated.

Gotcha. Wound up deactivating the trigger and subsequently reactivating the trigger and now the Activation History correctly reflects the status of the trigger!
