Custom fields - how to manage excessive number of fields

We have been going through the challenge on how to manage custom fields in Marketo.

Looking at the past camapigns that have been executed prior to Marketo came into picture, we asked a number of questions to our prospects to qualify them, and these questions varied based on the product line that we were marketing.

My question is how to capture the information about multiple product lines in Marketo. If we create fields for each product line and seperate ones for each campaign than we would end up with a lot of custom fields and that could become a administration problem.

Looking forward to other folks on how they handle this problem.

Dependent drop down lists could be an option. The Dynamic State and Province for US and Canada in forms is a good example:

Forms 2.0, to be released soon, would be a viable option depending on the project's timing.

May be I was not clear in my question, but my question is little different.

My question is how to capture the information about multiple product lines in Marketo?

Not sure how dependent drop down lists could be an option.

My goal is to keep lead profile attributes to a managable number.
