Code help -- how to make a field expandable

Good morning, does anyone know how to customize a checkboxes or radio dial buttons field to make it expandable (the field values drop down when the +  is clicked)? I imagine this will require some CSS work...if anyone can share the code that would be much appreciated. Thanks!
