Clarification on "email contains" filter

Hi Community,

I'm curious if anyone has insight into exactly what the following filter would include when used in a smart list:

Superficially, I'm sure that when you plug in a value following 'contains', the list would look for anyone who opened an email that contained that query string in the name of the email itself.

However, I am now curious, because when I recently started typing a phrase in, the auto suggest values that started showing up were pulling emails from programs that contained the naming convention I typed in, but was not contained in the name of the actual email.  In other words, will this filter look at an entire program of emails, or does the particular naming convention have to be part of the name of every single email for it to be included?

Thanks!

it is the name of the email. Programs will also appear because emails can live inside programs:

Program Name.Email Name

is actually how Marketo references that email.

You can give it a test by just saying CONTAINS "Email Name" and ensure that the PRogram names aren't pulled in. That is my understanding of the system.

It works the same for me -- it is the Marketo name of the email which includes the program name automatically prepended for local assets.

Hey Josh,

That's what I figured as well...it's just odd to me that Marketo would make an email available from a search based on the program name containing the value, rather than the email name containing it (when the email is what is actually in question).
