Changing the Original Referrer Data Value

Hello, I am wondering if it is possible to change the Original Referrer data value for an individual person? I tried to do so by importing an excel sheet with the person's information (same info as what's currently in Marketo) and I got an error message that said that this particular field is "system managed" and "can't be updated."

The reason I'm trying to change this data value is because we have segmented our database according to "original referrer" in order to avoid sending certain emails to certain groups of people. However, this person does want to receive a certain email and isn't able to because of the segment he is in.

Any suggestions are very welcome!

Thanks,

Laura

You cannot do this because it is a system field.

You could setup a new custom field with a trigger that says if Original Referrer is Updated OR Lead is Created AND Original Referrer IS NOT EMPTY, then

Last Referrer = {{lead.Original Referrer}}

placing the value in a way you can update.

This is kind of unusual to segment based on this field. Curious why?

Thanks Josh...The reason we set it up this way is because we have multiple promotions that we use to gather new leads, for example, a banner ad for a particular campaign on a website, another ad for a different campaign on a different website, and we are trying not to bring people into our existing email funnel until a certain action(s) has been taken. We have not yet started using the nurturing campaigns yet, but are planning to. For now, we have been doing it this way.

I have a question, should I be able to set up the new custom field and the trigger or at the same time, or do I set up the trigger in a separate smart campaign?

Thanks,

Laura
