Changing field type: Text to Long Text Area

We have a contact us form that allows people to type in their comments. We are seeing that some people are typing a lot of (good and valuable!) comments, more than 255 characters which is the limit on the Text field type in Salesforce.

As such, we've updated the field type from Text to Long Text Area in Salesforce. Will this change pass over into Marketo? We want to be sure that all future submissions with comments over 255 characters pass properly into Marketo and Salesforce.

No, you will have to change it also in Marketo, as field changes in SF are not passed to Marketo.
You need to go to Admin-Field and change the field type (More details here: https://community.marketo.com/MarketoArticle?id=kA050000000L3jq&src=comm)
