Can you use SOAP API to check if a lead is a member of a smart campaign?

I'm reading the API docs for version 2.1 and have searched the community, but haven't found a way to do this.

How do I use the SOAP API to determine whether lead x is a member of smart campaign y?

If this isn't currently possible, I think it ought to be.

getLeadActivity would help depending on how the campaigns are set up.
 
The WSDL allows to use the following values as activityFilter   
RequestCampaign
AddtoSFDCCampaign
RemoveFromSFDCCampaign
ChangeStatusInSFDCCampaign
