Can't Get Comment Field to Sync in Salesforce or Notification Email?

Hi there!

My company is new to Marketo and we're having some issues with the sync between Marketo and Salesforce.

  1. Cannot get the "comment" field in Marketo forms to sync w/ the "comments" field in a salesforce event field -- the name of the form goes into that comments field in Salesforce instead.
  2. Cannot get an email to be sent to the lead owner when the contact has synced with salesforce, or to a separate non-salesforce email. (This is all the "send alert" function in Marketo that isn't sending the alert!)
  3. Is there any way to sync campaigns between Marketo and Salesforce without making all recipients of say an email in the campaign new leads? (i.e. just updating their contact in salesforce?)

Have opened inquiries w/ support but haven't heard back from them in a week! Any help is appreciated!

Hi Taylor, 1. have you gone into the Admin section of Marketo to see what fields your Marketo fields are synching to in SFDC? It sounds like there might be an issue with the field that you've chosen for your "Comments" field in the Marketo form, and where it syncs to in SFDC. Since you're new to SFDC and Marketo, one important thing to know is that any custom fields you will want/need, will need to be created in SFDC if you want to be able to see and sync the data to Marketo. If you create the fields in Marketo, you cannot sync them back to SFDC without help from Marketo support (and typically when they do the connection, all data in those fields is lost).

2. It sounds like you've set up a smart campaign to send the alert email to the lead owner when the contact has synced with SFDC, can you include some screenshots of what you've done so we might be able to see why it isn't working? Also, just to make sure that your SFDC has synced properly with Marketo, are you able to see a lead owner in any of your lead database records?

3. To clarify, do you have records in Marketo who you're sending emails to, but you don't want to sync all of these with SFDC until they reach a certain threshold -- but if they're already in SFDC you want to update their contact record?

Keep in mind that Person Notes in Marketo is tied to Description in SFDC.
