Question

Can I track opens of alerts and apply that to an associated lead?

Here's my specific use case: I want to send alerts out to my channel partners whenever my sales team members assign a lead to them. I also want to know that the channel partner has opened the email and read it.

I've made a checkbox in SFDC for leads called "Partner Opened Email"; I can send an email to the partner, but I want to check that box when the partner opens the email.

(How) Can I do this? I expected to be able to, but upon trying to implement it, it's not working out the way I expected.

Hi Daniel,

Alert emails aren't tracked, so I'm not sure of a direct way you can do this. You might consider using the Create Task flow step instead of Send Alert, to create a task in Salesforce instead (and set it to send a notification to the owner). It won't track opens but it does show up as an actionable item for your sales reps.

Here's the problem, though... my channel partners are not SFDC users within our systems. They're partners. I send a lead out to them, and while they exist as contacts within SFDC, I cannot assign them tasks, as they're not users.

Are alert emails not tracked at all?
