Campaign Member management with CRM

Question: I intend on cleaning up old Campaign Members in our salesforce.com CRM by deleting them (need more storage space). Does this mean Marketo will think they're no longer in the system and inadvertently create them as Leads? Should I delete the Campaign Member ID in Marketo first? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!

Deleting the Campaign Member record should only remove the Lead from the SFDC Campaign. I am unsure of the effect in Marketo. I suspect it may push the lead out of the Program, OR Marketo may try to re-sync the lead back to the Program.

Also, if you do delete Campaign Member records, you will lose the attribution data it provides. I do not recommend it.
