Question

BCC Enablement and adding meta tags

Hi Team,

I had a few questions regarding the Marketo BCC setup for Trustpilot:

  1. I currently do not see the BCC option enabled in our Marketo instance. Does this need to be enabled through Marketo Support?
  2. Trustpilot mentioned they would provide a unique email address that needs to be BCC’d so they can trigger review request emails.
  3. Based on the documentation i read, it seems the BCC feature is enabled at the instance level. If correct, would every email sent from Marketo send a BCC copy to Trustpilot?
  4. Our concern is that this could significantly increase email volume/credit usage.
  5. I also read about a possible workaround using meta tags/rule-based filtering so only selected emails with the meta tags are processed for BCC. Would that approach work, or is there a better recommended setup? We could consult our IT team if this option could be leverage, could you confirm ?

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Regards,

Akshat

Are you talking about filters set by your IT team for inbound BCC’d mail? That’ll only apply to messages you’re receiving. Wouldn’t apply to messages sent to TrustPilot directly.

Hi Akshat,

  1. Support will enable it. Some useful notes here.
  2. That’s fine. Only one email address can be configured.
  3. Yes.
  4. Credit usage with Trustpilot?  It will “journal” every email sent to the BCC address.
  5. That is not supported by Market.  You can ask Trustpilot if they can ignore emails with a specific tag or from address/domain.

BCC in Marketo Engage is not a normal Admin self-service setup. It typically requires a Support request to enable it.

A few important caveats:

  • It is enabled at the entire instance level, not just for one program or campaign.
  • It supports only one BCC address.
  • It will generate one BCC copy for every email sent, so high-volume sends can create a very large number of BCC emails.
  • Adobe recommends using it mainly for archiving/compliance, not simple send confirmation.

If your goal is just to confirm a campaign send, the documented recommendation is to add yourself as a person record and include yourself in the send instead of enabling global BCC.
