B2C Marketo/Salesforce - Limiting Sync Visibility to Account Object

Are you using the SF person account feature to support your B2C model or are you doing something different? Technically there are two models availible to you (with the second with two variations)

1. bucket - everyone is under a single account or there is no account assigned to the contact i.e. one account/many unrealated contacts

2. individual - create an account/pair for each individual usually with the individual's name as the account name

2a) implemented using the SF standard behaviour

2b) implemented using the SF person account feature which merges some contact field into a single account record.

Although the 2b option sound great in theory, it causes no end of grief with most of the AppExchange and other tool sets that can not understand the person account structure.

Is this along the lines of what you are asking about?

Thanks, Eric! Yes - it's implemented as an SF Person feature. When a Lead is converted, it creates the Person Account (_c and _pc records) and both update in-sync. The problem is, the API calls will happen when Contact record is updated, then the Account record is updated and Marketo will call again. So it duplicates API calls. I wonder if it's possible to limit to one type of record, e.g. "RecordName_c".

Any experience with that?

Is this a problem because Marketo is using twice the SF apis? If so, the only way I know how to limit the visibility of records in SF from Marketo is to use the SF sharing rules to prevent the record type for the Marketo sync user(profile).  

You will want to use the criteria option on the Account, set to "Account Record Type" (not equal to) "Person Account" depending on what it is called in your org.

Correct - we are maxing out due to the number of total records. Thanks! I will try record type, haven't done that before. I know Marketo internally has a tool to do that but I have 88 records to disable from sync (which is a lot!)

Couple of questions:

1. What SF edition are you using?

2. How many logins do you have for the subscription vs how many accounts/contacts

3. Are you using record types?

Within SF.com you can limit Marketo access to object types. We recently removed access to "Cases". We did this because our legal department is now also using cases and the SFDC Activity was synced to Marketo. This was not desired behavior. Which record types are you using in SF.com?
