Any suggestions to generate the leads in a smart list faster?

Hi,

I face an issue everyday where I need to generate the leads for a smart list which I've created. It take Marketo forever to populate those numbers and for me to pull on excel sheet out of this is a Herculean task.

Is there something I'm doing wrong or Is there something Marketo can help me in making this process a lot quicker? Is anyone else facing the same issue?

Any help regarding this matter will be appreciate a lot.

Thanks,

Srujan Vishwanath

You should try the following:

  • avoid nesting smart lists
  • put the widest criteria at the TOP of the list as it processes top down.
  • be careful with NOT WAS filters and inactivity
  • Try to use positive filters instead of NOT operators.

Can you show us a screenshot of what the rules are in your smart list?

Thanks Josh Hill .

Can you throw some light on "avoid nesting smart lists". Not sure I understand!

Hey Srujan, that just means to avoid using a smart list within your smart list (especially if that smart list happens to contain another smart list!)

Another suggestion: Creating static lists isn't the best bet for everything, but they will improve processing speed at the time of a send.

Like Josh Hill said, there are a number of things to avoid. Another thing to add to his list (if possible) is webpage visits. Marketo told me that searching through entire activity logs for webpage visits can be very time consuming.

Also, how many records are you dealing with on average?

Thanks for the quick tip @Dory Viscogliosi . My average lead count will be between 10,000 to 200,000. It can go up sometimes.
