This is very hard to get after the horse has left the stable.

Ideally, this is done creating snapshots of the smart list at the beginning of the period (year). In Marketo world, a snapshot is a static list into which you copy the result of the smart list at a point in time.

May be RCE might be able to help.

So you will want to do this with RCE.  In it you can create time series reports that display lead growth over time, among other things.  Typically, RCE reports on programs not lists however.  So you would add your smartlist to a program and report on it that way.  For example a program will manage how leads are added to the list and the report will show how the members of the program grow over time.  Its a little round about but works well!
