Adding "Engagement Program Cadence" as a lead/contact field in SFDC

Hi Marketo community,

I am wondering if/how I can change the Engagement Program Cadence of a lead or contact in SFDC. In our current Marketo instance, we only have one nurture stream running, and the program cadence is either Normal or Paused within this stream.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,

The "change cadence" flow step and the "cadence" word in this context is, IMHO, a false friend.

The cadence means whether or not a lead proceeds through the stream. It's a on-off thing, in marketo terms, it's either Normal or Paused. You cannot change the time intervals between casts using this flow step (or any other BTW).

In other terms, various leads cannot accelerate or slow down through a stream.

The technique if you need to accelerate or slow down is to create different streams with different schedules, but potentially the same content, and move the leads from one stream to another, using the "change stream" flow step.

Hi Greg,

Sorry if I wasn't clear. My goal is not to accelerate or slow down leads through a stream. The goal is to allow an SFDC user to have access to the on-off capability that I do in Marketo. Is this possible?

Thanks,

Dan

Dan, you need to create new Streams with different Cadences. You should create new smart campaigns to help decide when this Cadence change should occur. For examples:

Batch Flow (almost never need a trigger because Engagements never require immediate action):

  • Lifecycle Stage Becomes X
  • Change Stream to Y

I've written about this extensively on slideshare.net/jdavidhill
