Activity Type in Salesforce

Hello Everyone-

We have recently begun letting our sales reps use the Marketo Email tool in Salesforce, and I was wondering if there was any way to customize the Activity Type that is logged in Salesforce?

Currently, any email that is sent using Marketo in Salesforce is pushed to Salesforce as a Task, but does not have an Activity Type attached in Salesforce. On the Salesforce side, I tried building a workflow rule that would make the 'Activity Type' equal 'Marketo Sales Email', but none of the workflow rules have worked. Is there a way to set any email sent using Marketo to make the Activity Type equal Marketo Sales Email?

Basically, I want to be able to distinguish in Salesforce how many activities a rep logged with the Activity Type: Email (manual email sent), and Activity Type: Marketo Sales Email (sent using the Marketo tool).

Any help or workarounds would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Ryan

We use both the Sales Insight Outlook add-in and the Salesforce Outlook add-in. To distinguish between which tool the rep is using, we run activity reports based on the subject of the activity. The Marketo add-in creates activities that begin with "Was Sent Sales Email:" and the Salesforce add-in activities start with "Email:". We use a STARTS WITH filter on the report in Salesforce to discern between the two.

Thanks Drew, very much appreciated-

But do you know if there is a way to push a specific Activity Type? I ask because we use a tool called InsightsSquared for our reporting, in which they filter on the Activity Type, so the 'starts with' filter would not work for this reporting.

Thanks again, I appreciate the help.

Yeah, unfortunately I don't think there's any way to push activity type. We initially wanted the same thing, and tried, but to no avail, hence the "starts with" filter reporting.

I use InsightSquared as well and am having the same issue. That plug-in's reports will only pull in activities with an activity type listed, and workflow rules in SFDC that I've tried in the past to auto-populate activity type for Sales Insight emails haven't worked. Any suggestions/workarounds for this would be much appreciated!
