Activity Details Explanation?

I've been looking at our email bounces and deliveries, and when I click on the ID within a lead's Activity Log I run into several items that I am unfamiliar with.

Within a bounce's "activity details":

  • What is a subcategory?
    • What numbers are used to define a subcategory?
    • What do the subcategory numbers denote?
  • What is a "variation id"?
    • What numbers are used to define a "variation id"?
    • What do the "variation id" numbers denote?

Within a delivered email's "activity details":

  • What is a choice number?
  • What is a test variant?

Here are some details. Without seeing the exact log, hard to say what all of them are.

  • What is a subcategory?
    • See activecampaign.com/help/bounces-soft-bounce-vs-hard-bounce/
    • What numbers are used to define a subcategory?
    • What do the subcategory numbers denote?
    • They explain the target server's response code based on SMTP guidelines. If your email bounces, the server may provide a reason for this. It is helpful in knowing how your emails are doing.
  • What is a "variation id"?
    • What numbers are used to define a "variation id"?
    • What do the "variation id" numbers denote?
    • This is probably from the Email AB Test if you did one.

Within a delivered email's "activity details":

  • What is a choice number?
  • This is the Choice Number of the Choice Step that triggered the action. (If, then statements).
  • What is a test variant?
  • Again, probably an AB Test

Thank you for your informative and speedy response. I took a look at the link you provided and see enhanced bounce codes and descriptions (5.0.0 and the like). However, the "subcategory" that I am referencing is actually giving numbers like 1001 and 1004. Any idea what those are? Thanks!

Hi Casey,

Have you had any luck with finding out the details for the subcategories?

Any help on what the subcategories are available for the email bounced filter?
