Whatsapp - Meta roles

Hi, The client is asking which Meta permissions are required by AJO to generate and use the access token for the WhatsApp channel integration.

In a community thread, I saw that the following permissions were mentioned as required:

  • whatsapp_business_manage_events
  • whatsapp_business_management
  • business_management

However, the client is requesting official clarification or documentation explaining why these high-level permissions are necessary.

So my questions are:

  • Are these the exact permissions AJO requires when integrating with the WhatsApp Cloud API?
  • Is there any official documentation that explains why these specific permissions are needed?

Thanks

For AJO’s native WhatsApp Cloud API integration, the Meta access token must be created with (at least) these WhatsApp‑related permissions on the Meta app/system user:

    • whatsapp_business_messaging
    • whatsapp_business_management
    • business_management (for embedded signup / business + WABA lookup and validation flows)
    • Get started with WhatsApp messages · Configure the WhatsApp channel

You just need to make sure those two permissions are active on the app so AJO can generate and refresh the token without errors. I’ve seen setups fail until both were granted.
