Is there an alternative Seed List solution?

The business I am working in is currently migrating to Adobe Experience Cloud utilising AEP and AJO as core products. We have discovered the OOTB AJO email seed list capability is not fit-for-purpose. This because the seed list can only be associated with one test profile at each email surface configuration.

Our business context:

  • We already have a total of 16 email surface configurations across four brands including consumer, business, marketing, and transactional email communications.
  • There are multiple lines of business within the business, multiple projects on the go at once, and multiple product and marketing campaigns regularly launching.
  • At any given moment we have thousands of email communications in-market.
  • It is difficult to keep track of what is in-market, and all of the personalised email variations.
  • Marketing & Product want to be able to see all of the email variations in-market, especially when an email incorporates dynamic content. They want the capability to regularly conduct spot checks of what is in-market especially as products and source data can change upstream.

Therefore, the OOTB AJO seed list capability cannot provide the business the necessary post-deployment checks to monitor all the email variations in-market.

Options we are ideating:

  1. Requesting Adobe enhance AJO to link a email surface with multiple test profiles, hundreds if needed. But this could be a long-term solution if enables to deliver on the ideal end state.
  2. Creating multiple/hundreds of test customer accounts that mirror real customer data attributes all sharing a common or LOB specific “seed email address”, that are included in read-audiences or triggered communications. This approach would need to be carefully considered to control the number of test accounts are used in communications, and how these can/will skew analytics. And ensure it is fit-for-purpose for all data ingestion patterns.

Surely ours is not a new problem. How have other businesses solved for this?

@KeironWratt Yes, use Message Export, not seed lists. Seed lists were never designed for this (one proxy profile per surface, capped at 300 addresses) — that's a known limitation, not a gap in your setup.

AJO's Message Export add-on captures the actual rendered content of every real send — personalization, fragments, subject/body — not a test profile's guess. Export it to your own data lake and build a dashboard on top so Marketing/Product can self-serve spot-checks by brand, campaign.

Also, you can use the Execution Metadata function or the feedback webhook to capture personalization data yourself.

On your two ideas:

  • Enhancement request — worth filing, but join Adobe's existing community thread; long-term bet.
  • Synthetic accounts — good for pre-send QA, not scalable/safe for continuous post-send monitoring.

Bottom line is that Message Export solves the actual problem — visibility into real in-market variants — without depending on seed lists at all.
