Question

How to configure seeds for event based jourey

Hi guys,

Could you help me understand how AJO uses seed lists for event based (on edge) journeys?

Scenario:

I have an abandon browse event captures ‘on the edge’ events triggered through our websdk.

This event is being used to initiate a complex journey within AJO to ultimately send emails to eligible customer who trigger the event.

I have set the email templates using a channel configuration that contains seeds.

Question:

I want to understand how AJO will handle the seed list.

Will it send a seed every time a customer triggers the event and an email is sent (which would be thousands a day).

Will it only send a seed the first time an event flows through to the email nodes - for the entire life of the journey.

Or something else?

Reason:

I want to customise how seeds are sent. For example some of the seeds are internal teams who want to check the emails occasionally, some are for our validity email performance therefore have limited credits.

I also want to avoid having to include manual configuration using nodes within the journey, as the journey is already quite large.

Thank you

Will

@WillGo3

In your event‑based abandon‑browse journey, AJO will send the seed list exactly once, the first time the email node is triggered.

It will not send seeds for every event and will only send again if you republish the journey.

Hi @Pulkit_Jain_  thank you for your response.

This leaves us in a bit of a conundrum! As we don’t want seeds all the time, but also don’t want seeds only once.

Do you know if there is a way to send the seeds more frequently than the first time?

In my example, our email deliverability and insights platform (Validity) would want us to send performance seeds about once a week in order to track how domain performance within specific email service providers is tracking. If we only send the seeds once then they will not be able to monitor this journey successfully.

Thank you

Will

Hi @WillGo3 ,
I also think that Journey Optimizer does support sending to seed addresses on every execution, but only when the message itself is re-executed. For a weekly Validity-style monitoring use case, we should implement a dedicated recurring campaign or recurring journey that sends the same email to the seed list on a weekly schedule.
Also as per my understanding, messages sent to seed addresses are not included in campaign or journey reports.
