Question

creating journey with engagement decision

I’m building a journey where the decision criteria are based on whether users clicked or did not click on communications, both for email and push notifications.

I tried using the Reaction Event, but it doesn’t behave the way I expected.

What would be the best approach to implement these decision points in the journey? Should I create an audience for users who clicked and another one for those who didn’t?

Could you please help me understand the best way to set this up?

Im using the AJO.

Hi @intuitive_workmanship297a ,

If the native Reaction activity isn't capturing your email or push click events as expected, you can use audience approach and identify users who clicked a specific message:
• Create a Batch Audience (Min. latency is 24hours to evaluate everyday): Build a audience leveraging the AJO Email Tracking Experience Event Dataset.
• Apply Specific Identifier Filters: To precisely target the correct message within your audience criteria, filter by:

  •    interactionType = click
  •    _experience.customerJourneyManagement.messageExecution.journeyVersionID (to filter a specific journey)
  •    _experience.customerJourneyManagement.messageExecution.journeyActionID (to filter Journey Action ID, for which MessageExecution is triggered. Note: journeyActionID is the specific message activity node in Journey canvas)

I’m wondering why the click activity isn’t being tracked while using reaction activity.

Thanks, Sathees

Thank you for your response.

I understand that I should use Click for Push and Open for Email.

By creating the audience based on the tracking as you mentioned, would I be able to achieve this?

My understanding is that the audience would be configured as follows:

  • Message ID: the ID of the message inserted
  • Event type: based on the tracking — Open for Email or Click for Push

Is that correct?

For Push:

- When you setup the audience use the Journey version + AJO Push Tracking Experience Event Schema and the eventType attribute.
- Set the operator to equals and input the system enum value:
    • pushTracking.customAction (if the user tapped a specific deep link button within the notification). Refer: https://developer.adobe.com/client-sdks/edge/adobe-journey-optimizer/push-notification/android/automatic-display-and-tracking
    • pushTracking.applicationOpened (if the general notification tap forced the mobile app to launch).

Take a look at this thread for additional information:

For Email:

  • I would advise against relying on Email Open events in Reaction activities primarily due to Apple's Mail Privacy Protection (MPP) and similar automated security filters, which render open tracking highly inaccurate and unreliable.
  • Instead use the email click activity as I mentioned earlier.
