Clarification: Does Audience-based Exit Criteria evaluate historical profile data or only new activity?

Hi team, I need to confirm the evaluation logic for Audience-based Exit Criteria in Adobe Journey Optimizer.

Scenario:

  • Entry: Recurring Read Audience (Daily).
  • Exit Criteria: Audience "Profiles who have already received Email 1."

Question: Does the exit criteria evaluate the historical state of the profile at the moment of entry?

Specifically: If a profile is already a member of the Exit Audience (due to past data) the second they enter the journey, will they exit immediately before hitting the first action node? Or does the exit criteria only "listen" for profiles who become members while already inside the journey?

Thanks!

    @Silvio6

    Does the exit criteria evaluate the historical state of the profile at the moment of entry? Yes. When a profile qualifies for and enters a journey, AJO instantly checks all exit criteria.

    If a profile already meets the exit audience criteria upon entering the journey, the following occurs:

    • The profile will enter the journey.
    • The exit condition will be met immediately.
    • The profile will exit before executing the first action node.

    » If they’re already in the "Received Email 1" audience due to past data, they will effectively exit immediately. Note: Consider the TTL on message feedback dataset to keep track of Received Email1 status for profiles.

    » Exit criteria are continuously monitored and can trigger an exit at any time.

    Therefore, the exit audience operates in two ways:

    • Immediate evaluation upon a profile's entry.
    • Ongoing listening for qualification while the profile is within the journey.
    Thanks, Sathees
