Edge segmentation and Streaming Segmentation

The profiles qualify for an audience in real time in the profile ui , weather streaming evaluation has been selected or the edge evaluation has been selected ,

so what is the difference between the two ? When a edge segmentation enabled audience is activated to a streaming destination lets say using HTTP API does it reach faster to the endpoint as compared to streaming segmentation enabled audience what difference does it make in terms of data reaching to a destination ?

Hi @vs1985

It seems there might be some confusion. The Edge server does not offer a distinct destination catalog or nor is a separate tool from AEP. Instead, it functions as an infrastructure setup to ensure data is transmitted to AEP through the edge. This setup proves useful in specific scenarios, such as when personalizing website content through AEP and Adobe Target. Data promptly reaches AEP via the Adobe Edge network utilizing WebSdk. If your end goal is to transmit data to an HTTP API destination, employing edge segmentation does not seem to differ significantly from streaming segmentation.

Attaching a reference diagram to make it more clear, creating a segment in AEP and chosing evaluation method as edge means it will be evaluated at the edge network

Hi @vs1985

It is always possible for a profile to qualify for a segment immediately, regardless of whether it is Edge or Streaming. The distinction typically lies in how you intend to use it. The criteria you apply to evaluate a streaming segment may not be applicable to an edge segment and vice versa. When you create an edge segment, the evaluation occurs on the edge server, allowing you to personalize your page almost instantly. However, with a streaming segment, it might take a few more seconds or minutes to achieve the same result.

Thanks @arpan-garg , can you please elaborate a bit more about this edge server ? Is "HTTP API" in the destination catalogue an edge server ?
