Data Collection Roadmap

November 2022

This is a roadmap.  It is not a promise.  It is a snapshot of what we think we can deliver based on our priorities at this current moment .  You should expect things to move around.  New items will be added.  Individual items will move closer and farther when development teams refine scope, update priorities, or otherwise learn that things did not take the exact amount of time that we estimated.

We reserve the right to be smarter tomorrow than we are today.

Does Q3 2021's "Extension package source download" mean that anybody will be able to download the source code of any extension?

@yuhuisg, essentially yes.  Developers agree to let us distribute the source code as part of signing up for the Exchange program.  Launch users have always had the right to request the source code, but asking was hard and us fulfilling the request was manual and time-consuming.  We wanted to automate it.

We updated the public release form awhile back so as extensions are released into the public catalog, the developers agree that their source code can be made available to Launch users.  Extension packages that have been released since that time have a meta attribute that contains a link to download the extension package source code.  Sometime in the next couple sprints, we'll update the product UI to contain a friendlier way to get at this link.  There are a few extension packages that have it now, we expect that over time as new updates are released the entire catalog will have an easily accessible .zip file of the source code.

We are not currently planning a backfill, we wanted developers to actively opt-in before we made the code so easily accessible.  While the Exchange program terms give us the right, we felt that with the change to make it so much easier, we wanted developers to actively acknowledge the change.

@thebenrobb thanks for the clarification.

Where can I find the specification for that meta attribute? I don't see it at https://experienceleague.adobe.com/docs/launch/using/extension-dev/manifest.html?lang=en.

@2528171, you don't supply it as part of the extension.json file, we'll automatically add it to the serialized JSON at the time that the extension package is made public.

@thebenrobb has left Adobe already. I'm not sure if anyone else from the Adobe Data Collection team is reading this thread, though.
