Cannot view or edit audience due to "Cannot set properties of null (setting 'segmentJobData')" error

I have several batch audiences which were activated to destinations within the past 2 years. They were created through the segment builder UI; there are about 300K+ qualified profiles.

This week when I go to edit the audiences via the UI, under attributes there is an error which says “Cannot set properties of null (setting 'segmentJobData')”.

Clicking Edit Audience results in an error of “Audience cannot be loaded. Cannot set properties of null (setting ‘segmentJobData’).”

Any thoughts on how to resolve this issue such that I can edit the audience?

Hi @AL11235 - was any attribute that is referenced in this audience, updated since the audience was created? I.e. was it renamed, removed, etc.? Could you also try to “duplicate” the audience in place of editing and see what happens

Hello; I’m not sure if any attributes have changed since the audience was created 2 years ago in 2024, but other audiences from that timeframe do not seem to have the same error.

When I duplicate the audience, the exact same issue and error appears.

    Hi @AL11235 ,

This error typically happens when the segment job metadata gets corrupted or loses its reference in the backend.

    Things to try:

    1. Clear browser cache and try a different browser — sometimes it is just a UI rendering issue
    2. Try opening the audience in a different sandbox — rules out environment-specific issues
    3. Use AEP Segmentation API to fetch the segment definition — if API returns it correctly, the issue is UI-only
    4. Raise a ticket with Adobe Support — for production audiences with 300K+ profiles that were working fine, this needs backend investigation on the segmentJobData reference

Most likely the segment job metadata lost its pointer after a recent AEP platform update. Adobe support can reset it without losing your audience definition or qualified profiles.
