Question

Audience export to SFTP includes some exited profiles and misses realized profiles

Hi @Community

I am working on activating qualified audiences to an SFTP destination in Adobe Experience Platform.

We are seeing an issue where some profiles that have already exited the segment are still being sent in the SFTP export and misses the realized ones.

Current setup

  • Audience qualification / segment evaluation happens at 8:45 PM IST
  • Export for same Audience is configured at:
    1. After segment evaluation to the SFTP server
    2. 10:30 PM IST
    3. 11:30 PM IST

What we are observing

  • The 1st and 2nd exports look the same
  • In these exports, 1–5 profiles out of around 100 sometimes appear even though they have already exited the segment
  • The 3rd export at 11:30 PM IST contains the correct and additional data all are in realized state.

Impact

Because of this issue, the same profile  (1-5) is being sent again on the next day.

My question

I expected the export job to run only after segment evaluation is completed. In the AEP UI, it looks like the evaluation finishes first and then the export starts.

Could you please help confirm:

  • whether this is expected behavior,
  • whether I am missing any configuration,
  • or whether there is an issue with audience export after segment evaluation?

Best Regards,

@SantoshRa5

When the evaluation and export job completed, Adobe recommend up to 2 hours for the data to propagate. It’s the reason why the 3rd export contains the correct data as there is enough buffer for the data to replicate in the system.

Recommendations

  • Use on-demand exports for exact snapshot-based data
  • Align batch ingestion with evaluation schedules to minimize discrepancies

Thanks,

David

Hi @DavidKangni

Thanks for the response.

Do you suggest keeping a 2-hour gap between the segment evaluation and export job?

I modified 08:30 PM IST segment evaluation and 10:30 PM IST is export. still there is discrepancy in export set up at 10:30 PM IST and 11:30 PM IST.

We have another option to set export after segment evaluation. Will this option also not work as there is no gap of 2- hours ?

Regards

Santosh

it should be 2 hours after the end of the export job time. Yes I’ve the option but I didn’t have the chance to test it.

Thanks

Hi @SantoshRa5
I'd first separate export type from export trigger—they affect different things.

  • Full file: Adobe documents this as a full export of the audience's qualified population; profiles in exited status are not included.
  • Incremental file: The first export is a backfill; later files contain changed profiles. An exit can be sent as a change event, particularly when segmentMembership.status is mapped. Downstream systems should interpret that status as an exit/removal, not as a currently qualified profile.

"After segment evaluation" triggers activation immediately after the daily batch segmentation job completes. A scheduled export instead runs at a fixed time and may use data that is not the latest if evaluation has not completed by then. Scheduled times are configured in UTC, so confirm the intended IST-to-UTC conversion and which trigger is actually configured for each audience.

I wouldn't rely on a blanket "wait two hours after the export finishes" as the fix. Adobe's documented one-hour buffer is about allowing an activation flow to propagate after it is configured; it is not a general two-hour delay after segmentation or after an export. For a scheduled export, compare the actual evaluation completion time with the activation run start time—the configured evaluation start time alone doesn't confirm that evaluation had finished.

To diagnose the missing and extra profiles, check Monitoring > Audiences for the evaluation job's start/end time and status, and the activation job's start/end time, status, and dataflow run ID. If useful, run Export file now as a comparison: it uses the latest audience-evaluation snapshot only, unlike scheduled exports, which include snapshot data plus incremental profile or identity changes.

If the export is confirmed to be full-file, and a profile whose exit completed before that run still appears in the file, that is not the documented full-file result. Share the audience ID, sandbox, export mode and mapping, file name, sample profile IDs, and the evaluation and activation run IDs/timestamps with Adobe Support so the specific run can be checked.
