XDP to HTML form wipes out calculated field value in webservice call

Since time fields do not seem to work correctly in XDP to HTML forms, I changed the time fields to text fields and then calculate the military time value from that in a separate field and trying to pass it to a webservice. I see the calculated fields filled in in my form, but the value is not being passed to my webservice. All that's being passed is nulls. Any ideas?
