Universal Editor copy/paste components between pages stopped working

Hi Experience League Community,

We are troubleshooting an issue with AEM Universal Editor in an Edge Delivery Services project.

The copy/paste functionality for components between pages was working before, but it recently stopped working. Authors can open and edit pages in Universal Editor, but when they try to copy a component from one page and paste it into another page, the paste action does not complete as
  expected.

We have started reviewing Author logs and browser network traces, but we are not yet sure which area is most relevant to investigate.

We would appreciate guidance on what else to check, for example:

  1. Universal Editor component definitions, models, or filters
  2. Edge Delivery Services Configuration Service settings
  3. Site/repository/branch configuration
  4. Author permissions or access restrictions
  5. Browser/network requests involved in copy/paste
  6. Known limitations when copying components across pages or language/site branches
  7. Any relevant Author log categories or services to inspect

Has anyone seen a similar issue where copy/paste between pages stops working even though page editing still works?

Are there specific endpoints, logs, configuration files, or permissions that should be validated to troubleshoot this behavior?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

HI @olsalas711

Since this functionality was working earlier, it’s highly recommended to review recent changes, especially

  • Component/model updates
  • EDS configuration changes
  • Permission modifications
  • Environment or branch changes

If you can capture the network error response during paste, it becomes much easier to pinpoint the exact issue and resolve it quickly.

Thanks

Hi @avesh_narang , thanks for the recommendation.

We already started reviewing recent changes, but so far we have not identified any clear component/model/configuration modification directly related to this behavior.

Additionally, we are seeing the same issue across different customer environments, including our own sandbox environments and even environments from other clients.

What we observed is:

  • Copy/paste within the same page still works correctly.

  • The issue specifically happens when copying components between different pages of the same site and same author instance.

  • This workflow had been working correctly before and stopped unexpectedly.

Because of the cross-environment behavior and the fact that it affects previously working functionality, we also opened a ticket with Adobe to help verify whether this could be related to a Universal Editor service-side issue or regression.

We will also try to capture and share the network error response during the paste operation to help narrow down the root cause.

Thanks.

@olsalas711

Since page editing is still working, the issue appears to be more specific to the Universal Editor paste workflow rather than a general authoring outage.

We recommend checking the following:

  • whether the destination container still allows the copied component type
  • whether there were any recent changes to component definitions, models, or filters
  • whether copy/paste was disabled through Universal Editor page configuration
  • the browser network trace / HAR for the failed paste request
  • author permissions / ACLs on the destination path
  • Author logs at the exact time of the failed paste

If you share the HAR file and timestamp from a failed reproduction, we can help determine whether this is a container/filter validation issue, permission/authentication issue, or a paste-service failure.
