Smart crops for a video asset thumbnail - is it possible?

Hi,

Is there a way to generate smart crops for a video asset thumbnail? We have several places where thumbnails are displayed and need different croppings for them. We plan to import the video information together with the 4k thumbnail from an external system.

Welcome to Adobe Community !!

To generate Smart Crop for Video asset :

 

1)You need to have Dynamic Media configured on your AEM Author Instance or AEM as a Cloud Author Environment.

2)You need a copy the OOTB Video Profile (Tools -> Assets -> Video Profiles) and create a copy if it.

3) Now enable  "Smart Crop" and add Crop ratios and save the changes.

4) Apply that Video profile on a folder and then upload your video asset to make sure video is processed and Crop ratios are created.

I am not an expert in Dynamic Media , but I am aware that Dynamic Media has Smart Cropping features. May be you can check https://experienceleague.adobe.com/docs/experience-manager-learn/assets/dynamic-media/smart-crop-feature-video-use.html?lang=en

      @dmytropanchenk As far as I know you cannot as thumbnail in AEM are auto generated based on first visible frame of video, it is not stored as physical asset in AEM. Smartcrop features only work for a digital asset physically uploaded and processed in AEM with smart crop profiles configured.

       

      Please let me know if you find any alternatives.

      May be uploading thumbnails as physical assets and then using them as manual thumbnails in video assets and writing custom logic to goto thumbnail asset and pick up smartcrops.. etc..
