Sitemap Out of the box hreflang tag?

I am looking at the out of the box sitemap generator provided by AEM and have a request to add the hreflang attribute to the sitemap file. I have looked up the documentation on the sitemap generator and found nothing that says hreflang can be generated through the out of the box generator. But, a video that goes over sitemap generation found here: https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/docs/experience-manager-learn/sites/seo/sitemaps @ 4:35 clearly shows the out of the box generator adding hreflang attribute to the sitemap.

 

Other posts on this forum indicate needing to implement a custom sitemap generator that adds the attribute but this video provided by adobe speaks otherwise. Can I get a defenitive answer on whether or not a custom sitemap generator is needed to add hreflang attribute to AEM's sitemap file? If it can what attributes on a page need to be defined to add that attribute during sitemap generation?

I hope it’s not too late to respond.

If you follow the same content structure and page component type as the WKND project, you should be able to leverage the OOTB sitemap generator to include the hreflang attribute. However, if you need to add additional attributes, it appears a custom implementation would be required.   

I recommend generating the sitemap locally using the WKND project to gain a better understanding of how it works.
