Private messages getting removed from publish instance

We've implemented private messaging - the workflow launcher on author is configured to "activate content" for resource type social/messaging/message on node creation - run mode is set to author&publish

On publish, when we create a message, it does get replicated back (by default?) to author. But after some time, it just vanishes.

The same workflow launcher is configured on publish as well (run mode: author& publish)

 

The messages do exist on author but keep gettting removed from publish instance. Any wrong mode settings we have?

These workflow launchers are shipped preconfigured and it is not expected that they would be modified. The launchers should only run on author.  On publish, the messages are reverse replicated.
