Multivariate Component and A/B Testing

( I'm using CQ 5.5 )

I have found the multivariate component and I think it's pretty nice but limited in its functionality. The ability to test static images is fine but what about dynamic content like buttons (button colors/text), carousel images, text/image combinations, and other items.

Is there another component that can do this? Are campaigns able to?

Brainstorm: I'm thinking maybe i can store my dynamic compononets on one page and then have the multivariate component call the references to these components and then track which reference was clicked.

Would something like that be possible?

Any ideas or suggestions would be great!

I would recommend extending this comopnent and trying this to see if this meets your needs. Sometimes a specific use case like this is not common and community may not have done this. But in general - you can extend an AEM component using JavaScript.
