Is there any way to see a sample of the upcoming web viewer in action at this time?

We're hoping to provide some limited access to the web viewer in late November, which would be enabled by Adobe rather than self-service through the dashboard. It will support just HTML articles and InDesign raster (not PDF) at that time. We'll post a message in the forums if we can provide this limited access.

Support for InDesign PDF, as well as the ability to self-enable web viewer in the dashboard, is targeting end of year.
