Is there an S3 datastore implementation for CQ 5.5.0

We are using CQ 5.5.0 in the Amazon AWS environment with the datastore on an EBS volume. Our site contains a lot of photographs and will need more than 1TB or storage which puts us beyond the Amazon limit for an EBS. I've seen references to an S3 datastore for CQ 5.6 and was wondering if that datastore would be compatible with 5.5 or whether there's an implementation for 5.5?

In v5.6.1, CQ offers the capability (beta version) to host CQ’s Data Store in Amazon’s S3 (Simple Storage Service) as a “feature pack” (FP).  Not sure whether there is any backward compatibility, seems to be something added in 5.6.1
