AEMaaCS bot attack mitigation using Akamai in front of Adobe Managed CDN

Our AEM as a Cloud Service site is currently experiencing heavy bot traffic and repeated bot attacks. We are evaluating Akamai Bot Management as an edge security layer and need confirmation on the supported architecture for AEMaaCS with Adobe Managed CDN �.

Questions :

Can Akamai Bot Management be placed in front of Adobe Managed CDN as a customer-managed CDN layer for AEMaaCS? �

Is the recommended approach to keep Adobe Managed CDN and add Akamai in front, rather than replacing Adobe Managed CDN entirely? �

Are there any restrictions, supported headers, or configuration requirements for this setup? �

We are also facing the exact same situation for our websites. I know, for a fact from other BU, that they are also facing heavy bot traffic starting early Q2 this year. For us, we always had Akamai as our BYOCDN. I would recommend its good to have that for your website also. If you are currently only having FASTLY , I think they also provide those capabilities but with additional cost. The only challenge I see in that is , since Fastly CDN is with Adobe , you will not have a complete visibility to it. Having your own CDN will give you more visibility to the kind of traffic coming in to your website and put required controls . 

We have faced unprecedented amount of bot traffic to our websites. It is more than 10 times than we actually licensed our servers to have. Akamai’s bot management will not block all the bots. For e.g AI crawlers wont get blocked, as blocking all of them will affect your website visibility in AI platforms and your content discoverability in applications like chatgpt , perplexity etc. But what you can do is , use Akamai Security Dashboard and block the bots which you think is not required to access your website. 

We were able to bring down the bot traffic from 20M to 7M currently. (this is excluding the crawlers mentioned here https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/docs/experience-manager-cloud-service/content/implementing/using-cloud-manager/content-requests ) . We are still in process of reviewing and bringing down the numbers. But in short , I would recommend you have your own bot management mechanisms.
