AEM XPath Query special characters

I'm currently trying to create a xpath query in crxde that is looking for items that contain some special characters. Here is what i have.
/jcr:root/content/*//jcr:content//*[jcr:contains(., '<style>')]

This end up yeilding a list of items containing style instead of <style>. I've tried escaping the character like this "\<style\>" and that didn't do anything.

It would be useful to see an example of the data that you are searching.

The predicate part of you XPath also looks incorrect.

Have you tried using > and < in place of the angle brackets.
