6.1 with Java 8

What is the recommended version of Java with 6.1 ? I have seen some of the threads in this forum where it has been suggested to not to upgrade to Java 8 due to some known issues. However, the documentation says that Java 8 is supported-

https://docs.adobe.com/docs/en/aem/6-1/release-notes.html

"Supported Platforms

With 6.1, Adobe recommends to use Java 8 with a 64bit JVM as default. Exceptions are deployments on web application servers - such as IBM WebSphere that come recommended with their JVMs. Please consult the Supported Platform list for all details."

According to the AEM docs - 1.8 is supported:

https://docs.adobe.com/docs/en/aem/6-1/deploy/technical-requirements.html

However - in past versions of AEM - it states 1.7 is preferred.

Also - we have heard of community members having issues with 1.8 that were resolved when using Java 1.7. Like all new platforms - Java 1.8 is relativist new and there may be some unforeseen issues. I personally use 1.7 with AEM.

You can still use 1.8 unless you see any errors while setup
