Support modern image formats (AVIF, JPG XL)

Hello Adobe Team, currently modern image formats are not fully supported end-2-end.

In the CF Editor

AVIF = Asset reference can be selected, NO preview image shown to authors. The delivey through Dynamic Media with OpenAPI is working

JPG XL = Asset reference can be selected, NO preview image shown to Authors. The delivery through Dynamic Media with OpenAPI is NOT able to render it.

  • AVIF

    • Authoring: “AEM currently does not generate thumbnails/previews for uploaded AVIF assets, so CF Editor will show a generic icon even though the asset can be referenced.”
    • Delivery: “Dynamic Media with OpenAPI can deliver AVIF via Smart Imaging (for DM Ultimate), so runtime delivery is fine.”

  • JPEG XL

    • “JPEG XL is not supported by AEM’s processing pipeline or by Dynamic Media with OpenAPI. Assets can be stored but will not have previews, and DM cannot deliver them. We must convert JXL to PNG/JPEG for use.”
