Workbench/Insight - MetricDim ?

I wonder if someone can help,

is there any documentation anywhere that shows how to change various aspects of MetricDim Dimensions ? e.g. What are the format options, offset, scale etc.

Also how do you create one of these  ?

 

Would be really useful to have more explanation
