Adding on: you can configure an eVar to work like a prop by setting the eVar's expiration to "Hit".

eVars vs props is generally a legacy feature that was introduced early in Adobe Analytics (back when it was Omniture SiteCatalyst). These days, you can use eVars only.

The only advantage of using a prop is when you want to record a list of values instead of a single value, for example, tracking the filter options that a user has selected in a search result list.

eVars are conversion variables, enables you to calculate success metrics.

you can use eVars for to store only single value, if you want to store multiple values then use list vars.

props are traffic variables, enables you to calculate traffic related events.

Here is a tip from Adobe on using eVars vs props:

Adobe recommends using eVars in most cases. In previous versions of Adobe Analytics, props and eVars had advantages and disadvantages to each other. However, Adobe has improved eVars to an extent that they now fulfill almost all use cases for props.

Hope this helps!
