Time flow comparison

is there a way to create a dynamic time range comparison that always pull the previous selected period regardless of length. for example. if i selected in the date range for the panel june 9-june 19 the camparison would compare it to june 8th to May 29. and if i changed the date range to look at june 10-june 12 it would then compare it to june 7-june 9. does that make sense?

The only way to do this currently requires the use of Report Builder…

If you use “Date from Cells” and use Excel formulas to calculate the equivalent comparison range, you can set up your requests to use the “selected date range” and other requests to use the “calculated comparison date range”…

Now, interestingly… I think the Key Metric Summary visualization does handle variable comparisons better that the freeform tables… so if you are okay with simple comparisons, you could try that in Workspace to get basic compare data.

I had a nice chat with someone on the Adobe Product Team about this (this is where we saw the Key Metric Summary had some of that logic), so I know they have taken this request and are investigating how to implement it… but no clue when / if it will be released.

Hi @cjnico

unfortunately, this is not possible yet.

This idea has been pitched before, yet still awaiting implementation.

Cheers from Switzerland!

As @bjoern__koth mentioned this option is available yet. I had few scenarios in the past wanted a comparison like this, but couldn’t do it. Hopefully will get implemented.

In work space you can sort of do this, but only as long as your time periods are always the same length, for example, one week. If you have a last week date range in your table, for example, then in your panel under the calendar options, select "make date ranges relative to panel." Instead of using the current date to calculate "last week" it will instead use the first date of your panels date range. So if someone changes the date range to a week last month, your last week in the table will compare to the week before that.

Now, keep in mind that this relativedate range doesn't change lengths. So if your panel range gets changed to two weeks, this will still only compare it against a one week period (or whatever length you use for the date range component).
