Segment Comparison

If I'm understanding right — you're seeing n/a after you manually drag in a new dimension item or calculated metric into an already-built Segment Comparison table?

If so, this is expected behavior, not something you're missing. The segment comparison panel runs its statistical tests only once, at the moment you hit "Build."

When you drag something new into the table afterward, Workspace can show you the raw metric values just fine, but it has no way to retroactively run the statistical comparison on that new item — so you get n/a.

The way around it is to remove the item you added manually, and rebuild the whole panel from scratch with that dimension item or calculated metric included from the start, so it's part of the original Build run.

If you’re using the Segment Comparison panel, you need to make sure your dimensions and/or metrics are selected before you start the calculation. Once you hit “build” for the Segment comparison, it’s going to do all of the statistical calculations, and modifying it afterwards needs to be done by editing the panel.

Initial build:

When you start the segment comparison, drag in your segments that you want to compare. Then click “advanced settings” and this will open the bar that you see in the screenshot below. This shows you what dimensions, metrics, and/or other segments will be EXCLUDED from your analysis. You can see in my example below, there are 43 dimensions that are being excluded. If you click on dimensions, it will show you a list of what is being excluded. You can click the x beside any (or all) of the items to include them in your analysis. Alternatively, if there is a component that is being included that you don’t want compared, you can drag it from the left hand panel onto that bar, and it will add it to the exclusion list. You can also hit “set as default” if you use this a lot and want to save the changes to the exclusion list.

After you’ve build the panel:

If you’ve already built the panel and then realize that you want to add/remove components, you need to click the pencil icon at the top right hand corner. This will open the same type of bar from the initial creation where you can add/remove components. 

Once you’ve added or removed what you need, click build. It will ask you if you’re sure because it will clear the current report (and any changes you’ve made to the visualizations) and rebuild it from scratch.

So, you don’t need to manually calculate anything. You just need to make sure that the components you want are not being excluded from the analysis.

Although it is important to keep in mind that this is only going to show you the top metrics (and other components) that are significantly different between the segments. If what you want to see isn’t showing up, it’s likely because there isn’t a significant difference (either overall or in relation to other components). But if you really need to see something specific that isn’t showing up, you could try expanding your “exclude list” to include the top components showing up and that should show you other ones instead.
